WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wisc (WSAU) A month ago the Wood County sheriffs department's police dog ran off into the woods, and was missing for a few days. Now the dog has a special collar with a tracking device inside to keep it from happening again.
The technology was donated by the Wilderness Sportsmans Club after the organized a fundraising drive. The dog is already wearing the new collar, although an official presentation ceremony was held yesterday.
Toro was found eating a deer carcass after running off during a traffic stop.
Police dogs are worth between $10,000 and $15,000 including special training for the animal and their handler.
