Fans of the original Mouseketeer superstar Annette Funicello will be happy to know that Britney Spears doesn't think her death is "great."
Accosted by a TMZ reporter on Monday, Britney, who starred in the latter-day version of The Mickey Mouse Club -- the show that made Funicello a household name back in the fifties -- was asked about the veteran star's passing at the age of 70 after a long battle with multiple sclerosis. In the TMZ video , Britney smiles, gets into a car and says, "I think that's great."
Her response was so bizarre that, of course, one had to assume that she didn't hear or understand the question, and that's exactly what happened. Britney quickly took to Twitter to write, "Misheard a question I was asked earlier by press while I was out and about. I am DEVASTATED to hear about the passing of Annette Funicello. She was a role model for me during my days as a Mousketeer."
She added the hashtag "#heartbroken."
