Brewers Host Giants Tonight

MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) The defending World Series champion San Francisco Giants will play three games against the Brewers in Milwaukee, starting tonight. Both teams had the day off yesterday.

The Giants are off to a solid 9-and-4 start, after taking three-of-four from the Cubs in Chicago during the weekend. The Brewers are struggling at 3-and-8, losing three-of-their-last-four while going a team-record 32 straight innings without scoring a run. That streak ended Sunday, during a 10-inning Milwaukee victory at Saint Louis.

Right-hander Wily Peralta will start for the Crew tonight against veteran Giants’ left-hander Barry Zito. Zito is 2-and-0, while Peralta is 0-and-1 with an E-R-A of four-and-a-half. But the Brewers continue to be high on Peralta, who earned a spot in the rotation by going 2-and-1 during a September call-up last year.

Brewers’ pitching coach Rick Kranitz says the 23-year-old Peralta has a powerful sinking fastball that a lot of big league starters don’t have – and his secondary pitches remain a work in progress. This year, Peralta struggled in his season opener against Colorado, giving up four runs in five-and-a-third innings. Last week, he held the Cubs to two earned runs in six-and-two-thirds innings with five strikeouts.
