MADISON, WI (WSAU) - Working for the government does not give you immunity from taxes.
David D. Wright of Milwaukee has been charged in Milwaukee County for failure to file Wisconsin income tax returns for 2009 through 2011. As a U.S. Postal worker, he received between 39-thousand and 64-thousand dollars per year.
Wisconsin Department of Revenue officials mailed him letters, but he did not respond. Now he owes about 41-thousand dollars in state income taxes, and faces up to 30-thousand dollars in fines plus 27 months in jail if convicted. When asked why he didn’t file, Wright simply said, “no reason.”
