MERRILL, WI (WSAU) - A rebuilt college campus has it’s official grand reopening Wednesday. A tornado destroyed the Northcentral Technical College Merrill’s Emergency Services Campus two years ago, and it’s been rebuilt as a state-of-the-art facility.
What used to be two separate classroom and field sites is now one Public Safety Center of Excellence with three main components. There’s a paved area for emergency operations training, a private stretch of roadway with various surfaces and turns for emergency vehicle training; and a four building emergency village for situational training of law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical teams.
1.8 million of the 2 million dollar cost was covered by insurance. About 110-thousand dollars was raised in donations from businesses and groups. The NTC Foundation also contributed $35,000 towards the reconstruction.
An open house will be held Wednesday, April 24. From 12:00 Noon until 2:00 p.m.
