FRIENDSHIP, WI (WSAU) - The trial for the Big Flats man accused of killing his mother began yesterday. Larry W. Clark has been charged with first-degree intentional homicide in the 2010 shooting death of 79-year-old Marcella Clark.
His attorney told jurors Monday that the shooting was an accident. Attorney James Connell said the gun had misfired before the shooting when Clark wrestled the handgun away from his mother. Connell said a second accidental firing of the weapon happened the next day when Larry Clark raised his arms while having breathing difficulties while still holding the gun.
Monday started with about four hours of jury selection, followed by opening statements and testimony from the woman who first reported Marcella Clark missing. Jamie Wolms of Hancock became suspicious when her friend was nowhere to be seen and Larry Clark gave her conflicting stories about where she was.
