During Taylor Swift 's current RED tour, she's welcomed a number of special guests to the stage to sing with her, including Carly Simon , Train , rapper Nelly and, most recently, Sara Bareilles and Tegan and Sara . Obviously, Taylor's a fan of all these artists, but are they fans of hers? A special guest on her last tour weighs in on that topic.
In 2011, during her Speak Now tour, Taylor brought Goo Goo Dolls frontman Johnny Rzeznik out on stage to perform his band's biggest hit, "Iris," with her. At the time, she called it, "One of the best songs ever written." And Johnny tells ABC News Radio that he thinks pretty highly of Taylor as well.
"She's really smart. She's really talented," he says. "She's a cool songwriter and she really knows what she wants. She's really...she's like a mega star. It's pretty amazing." He says he even has a favorite Taylor song.
"One of my guilty pleasures is that song 'Trouble, trouble,'" says Johnny, referring to her hit "I Knew You Were Trouble." He laughs, "I won't turn it off if it's on the radio, you know?"
Of course, Taylor is far from the only young act who's showed appreciation for the Goo Goo Dolls and "Iris." Among the artists who've covered the tune on record and live: Avril Lavigne , Boyz II Men , Leona Lewis , Kelly Clarkson , Beyonce and various reality show contestants.
"We've had people come up to us and say, 'Hey,' y'know, 'I respect what you do'...those kind of things, or 'I like your writing,'" Johnny says of other artists giving them props. "That's really good, when one of your peers actually appreciates something that you do."
The Goo Goo Dolls will finish up their big summer tour with Matchbox Twenty next week. Then, they'll do a few shows on their own before heading off to the U.K. for dates there. In December, they'll rejoin Matchbox Twenty for that band's first-ever fan cruise .
