Packers Cut Tavecchio

GREEN BAY, Wis  (LEARFIELD-WSAU) The Green Bay Packers are back to having two kickers on their roster, after they cut Giorgio Tavecchio today. The left-footed free agent gave six-year incumbent Mason Crosby a real challenge throughout Training Camp. But coach Mike McCarthy was not happy with either of them – so the Packers tried out two other kickers yesterday and signed rookie free-agent Zach Ramirez from Portland State.

Ramirez and Crosby will compete this week for the regular season kicking job. The Packers will play at Kansas City on Thursday night – and then they’ll cut their roster to the regular season limit of 53 during the weekend.

Tavecchio hit 86-percent of his field goal attempts this summer, compared to 80-percent for Crosby. The Packers called Ramirez last week, after Crosby missed three field goals at practice for the third time since camp began just over a month ago.
