MADISON, Wis. (WSAU) - Two protesters were actually carried out of the Capitol rotunda Monday. Police arrested the two for not having the appropriate permit. Other protesters recorded the carry outs on video.
Protesters say they don’t need permits to exercise free speech rights. If they’re wrong, it is going to be an expensive mistake since the tickets cost $200.50 each. Capitol Police have made dozens of arrests since the crackdown on large gatherings without a permit began. A federal judge already ruled the state can require large groups to obtain a permit to use the space.
Both of Monday’s arrests involved protesters that refused to leave after not having permits. One officer received minor injuries during the apprehension and removal process.
Since August 20th, there have been about 300 arrests at the Capitol for gathering and singing anti-Governor Walker songs without the required permits.
