December means it's time for end-of-the-year roundups, and Rolling Stone is one of the first out of the gate with its list of the 50 Best Albums of 2013 . Ranking in the top 10 on the survey are albums by Lorde , Kanye West and Daft Punk .
Kanye's album Yeezus comes in at #2 on the list, with Rolling Stone noting that it's the rapper's "most extreme album ever," and that it features him "taking you on a guided tour of the dark sh** inside his brain." Daft Punk 's Random Access Memories , featuring the hit single "Get Lucky," is in at #3, with what the magazine describes as "lush Seventies-style studio funk fusion." Lorde's debut, Pure Heroine , is #7, and the magazine says its success was due to the 17-year-old singer's "sultry, swaggering, hip-hop-savvy, fully grown voice and stark synth jams as earworm-y as Miley's or Katy's splashiest hits."
Absent from Rolling Stone's list are the latest albums by Justin Timberlake , Lady Gaga and Katy Perry . The album that came in at #1 was Modern Vampires of the City, by the alt-rock group Vampire Weekend . Here's a sampling of what else made the list:
