SEATTLE, WASH (LEARFIELD-WSAU) The Wisconsin volleyball team will play defending champion Texas tonight in the semi-finals of their N-C-A-A Tournament in Seattle. The winner will play either Penn State or Washington for the national title on Saturday night.
Wisconsin entered the tournament with a Number-12 seed, and will play a top-seeded Texas team that has won 23 straight matches. The Longhorns are 27-and-2 overall. The Badgers are 27-and-9, and they're the third Number-12 seed to reach the Final Four in the last five years.
This is only the second time Wisconsin has been in the volleyball Final Four, and it comes during the first year of Kelly Sheffield's coaching run. Sheffield came to Madison after he led Dayton to five N-C-A-A bids in five years.
Yesterday, Badgers' freshman Lauren Carlini was named a second team coaches' All-American. Carlini, a setter, has had 11-point-one-five assists this season, second in the Big Ten. And she led the nation's freshmen with 21 double-doubles. Badgers' junior outside Ellen Chapman was named an honorable mention.
