SUPERIOR, WI (WSAU) The Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa says its effort to find, raise and test the contents of military waste dumped in the lake 50 years ago found nothing offering an immediate human health or environmental threat.
More than two dozen barrels were recovered last summer. The tribe says those barrels did include some still-active explosives called ejection cup assemblies.
The 3-point-3 million dollar project was funded by the U.S. Defense Department as a part of an ongoing clean up of military dumps and other waste left on Indian lands across the U.S.
