SCHOFIELD, Wis. (WSAU) - A change in provider prices in tracking software is causing a change in pawn shop ordinances in Schofield.

City leaders and officials at Everest Metro are looking to modify whom the city and its pawn shops contract merchandise tracking software with at a city council meeting Tuesday night. Everest Metro Police chief Wally Sparks says their current provider is raising prices. "The rates have been raised, and we've been able to find another provider with a better level of service for less cost." Those programs help police find and track stolen property that may have been sold at one of the city's pawn shops.

The current ordinance with the city only allows for one provider. Sparks says the difference will let them change who they do business with. "We are simply modifying the ordinance to take out the specific name of the program to allow for a system of the police department's choosing."

That meeting starts Tuesday night at 6 pm.
