She wasn't there in person to accept it, but Adele has added another trophy to her shelf.  Wednesday night, she scooped the Best British Single award for "Skyfall" at the Brit Awards , the British version of the Grammys.

Adele sent a video acceptance speech to the London ceremony in which she told the crowd, "Thank you so much for this Brit Award, it means a lot. Sorry I can't be with you tonight, I'm in L.A. rehearsing for the Oscars."   "Skyfall" is nominated for Best Original Song from a Motion Picture at the Oscars this Sunday, and Adele will sing it during the telecast.

Then, in a reference to last year's ceremony, where her acceptance speech for Best British Album was cut short by the producers, Adele added, "I won't keep you too long because I don't want to interrupt the best album speech at the end of the night. But I love you all." She also pointedly said that she had not moved to the U.S., and planned to be back in the U.K. soon.

It was Adele's fourth Brit Award overall.  In comparison, she has nine Grammys.

Other winners included Coldplay , who were named Best British Live Act, and One Direction , who received the first-ever Global Success Award, presented to the U.K. act with the highest international sales during 2012.  The group scored the honor thanks to the amazing U.S. sales of their first two discs: Up All Night and Take Me Home.

Taylor Swift performed her song "I Knew You Were Trouble" on the telecast and presumably avoided an awkward run-in with her ex, Harry Styles of One Direction .
