Brewers Lose, Play Two Today

MARYVALE, AZ (WSAU)The Milwaukee Brewers lost their first exhibition game of the spring yesterday, 7-to-4 to the Cleveland Indians in Phoenix. The Brewers scored all their runs in the first inning off Carlos Carrasco, who faced his first big league hitters since having Tommy John elbow surgery in 2011.

Caleb Gindl had the biggest hit for the Crew, with a two-run single. Milwaukee starter Mark Rogers had a rough one-and-two-thirds innings. He gave up two runs on two hits, three walks, and a wild pitch.

The Indians stole three bases in the first, when they cut their four-run deficit in half. Carlos Santana belted a two-run homer for Cleveland, as Milwaukee fell to 1-and-1 in the young Cactus League season.

Today, the Brewers will play two split-squad games. Right-hander Tyler Thornburg will start against Cincinnati. And right-hander Hiram Burgos will open against San Diego.
