WIAC honors Women's Basketball players, 4 Pointers on list

MADISON, WI  (UWSP)  -  The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point women's basketball team had four student-athletes receive All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) accolades for their efforts in the 2012-13 season. 

Senior Sam Barber (Schofield, WI/D.C. Everest/Winona St.) was named the league's Player of the Year and was selected First Team All-WIAC team for the second straight season. The guard has averaged 18.7 points per game this season and has scored double figures in every contest but one. Barber ranks in the top five in conference in scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage, three-point field goal percentage, three-point field goals made and blocked shots. 

The Pointers two other seniors, Brooke Allen (Barneveld, WI/Barneveld) and Liz Althoff (Darien, WI/Clinton) received Honorable Mention for their performances this season. Allen averaged 6.5 points per game this season, playing in a team-high 30.3 minutes per game. The guard ranks 12th in the conference in three-point field goal percentage (.307) and 11th in three-point field goals made (30). She ranks second on the team with 64 assists, averaging 2.29 per game.On Dec. 1st Allen posted her first career double-double, tallying a career-high 21 points and 12 rebounds. 

Althoff currently ranks third on the team in points per game, averaging 6.5 per contest. The senior guard has scored in double figures in 10 different games this season, with a career-high 21 points over UW-Oshkosh in the WIAC semifinal game on Feb. 22. She led the Pointers this season with an 82.6 free throw percentage, shooting 90-for-109 from the line, ranking her fifth in the WIAC. Althoff has also been named to this year's All-Sportsmanship team. 

Junior Myranda Tyler (Grafton, WI/Grafton) has been named to the All-Defensive team this season after ranking third in the conference in blocked shots with 35, and ranking 12th in rebounding, averaging 5.3 per contest. Against UW-Oshkosh on Feb. 6 she posted a season-high five blocks and has recorded at least one block in 20 of the Pointers games this season, including in each of the last 10 games. This season Tyler has averaged 10.6 points per game and has shot 48.5 percent from the field.
