MADISON, WI (WSAU) A late rally fell short for the Wisconsin women, as they lost at home to Minnesota yesterday 60-to-55.
The Gophers were held without a field goal in the final four minutes and 18 seconds, and they were out-scored by the Badgers 13-to-6 in the final two minutes. But Wisconsin could not overcome a sluggish first half, when the Badgers only shot 33-percent and hit 1-of-10 from three-point range.
The Badgers trailed by three at the break, and they never took the lead in the second half when Minnesota went up by as many as 12. The Gophers’ top scorer, Rachel Banham, was held to nine points – 12 below her average. Micaella Riche scored 14 for the Gophers, who improved to 1-and-1 in the Big Ten and 12-and-4 overall.
Morgan Paige scored 22 for Wisconsin, which fell to 0-and-2 in the conference and 8-and-7 overall. The Badgers will host Iowa on Thursday night.
