UPDATE: One dead in Mosinee mobile home fire

UPDATE 3:10 p.m.

MOSINEE, WI (WSAU) - A fire at the Edgewood Mobile Home Park in Mosinee last night left one man dead and the double-wide home destroyed.

Mosinee Fire Chief Josh Klug says the State Fire Marshall has already been on the scene, and they may never know the exact cause of the fire. “They’re not suspecting anything suspicious or any foul play, or anything like that at this time, however, due to the amount of damage, it may be left as undetermined.”

The victim was found inside the burned out trailer, but Klug said firefighters were not initially aware someone was inside the building. “It was initially determined that there was nobody in the building at the time.” He says the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department later determined that there may be a victim inside. Klug said, “Once the fire was extinguished, crew members were able to get inside and do a search of the building, where they were able to locate one fatality.”

The Mosinee Fire Department has returned to the site a couple of times today to put out hotspots. The middle-aged male victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of family. His body is on the way to Madison for a complete autopsy.

You could say Klug went right from the frying pan to the fire in this case. The fire began just after 7:00 p.m. Sunday night, and lasted until early Monday morning, which is Klug’s first official day as the Mosinee Fire Chief.
