Braun To Play In WBC

by

MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) Milwaukee Brewers’ outfielder Ryan Braun will again play for Team U-S-A in the World Baseball Classic in March. Braun told Milwaukee sports radio station W-S-S-P last night that he has started his baseball workouts in order to get ready.

Braun also competed in the World tournament in 2009. Spring training will start earlier than normal this year, so players in the World Baseball Classic will have more time to get ready.

Milwaukee starters Yovani Gallardo and Marco Estrada are expected to play for their home country of Mexico. Relievers John Axford and Jim Henderson could play for their native Canada. And catcher Martin Maldonado might be selected to Puerto Rico’s squad.

Rosters have not been announced yet. Brewers’ outfielder Norichika Aoki has already said he will not play for his native Japan, which has won the first two World Baseball Classics.
