County civil suit against Jost family moves forward

by

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) - Portage County officials have filed a civil suit against one of the three defendants charged in the Jost disappearance case.

During an initial appearance this week, Portage County prosecutors claimed Charles Jost improperly disposed of solid waste, and is storing vehicles on the property improperly. Court records show that the county is not asking for a forfeiture in the case, but rather the right to move in and clean up what they consider a health hazard.

The Alm Road property has tarps and plywood making a shelter against an old bus. There are old bikes, tires, cardboard, and garbage scattered on the land. County officials say there’s little that can be salvaged, and it could take ten dumpsters to haul the junk away. The property is also considered a health hazard because human waste was found on the site. The property has no functioning plumbing or septic system.

Jost asked in court for a chance to find an attorney in the case to defend his rights. The case will continue January 28th.
