INDEPENDENCE, WI (WSAU)  -  A pedestrian died after being hit by a car in Independence, Wisconsin Wednesday night. The incident happened just before 6:00 p.m. on Highway 93 in the small western Wisconsin community.

Police Chief Derrick Vold says the woman was unresponsive when responders arrived. The woman was taken to a hospital while CPR was performed, but she did not respond.The accident is still under investigation. Vold says alcohol was not a factor. Traffic was rerouted around the scene for several hours Wednesday evening.
