WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) - Wausau's Badger State Games are on schedule despite a lack of snow cover in places.
Wausau Sports Authority director Darren Schaefer says they're gearing up for the early start of the Badger State Games this weekend despite a shortage of snow. "Our events this weekend are both indoors, so we're okay for now." This weekend will see the start of Bowling at Coral Lanes and Archery in Rib Mountain.
As for the rest of the weekends for the games, only one event is in danger for lack of snow. "Nordic skiing out at Nine Mile Forest. Currently the facility is closed waiting for snow and we're hoping that will arrive." Schaefer says the event is still scheduled to run as planned for now.
Despite the warm weather, registrations are up this year for a number of events. Schaefer says they were a bit surprised about figure skating. "We have closed registration on figure skating, and that event has grown from 279 last to 407 this year, so a 46 percent increase over last year."
The games run each of the next three weekends and you can learn more from a link on the homepage at WSAU.
