IOWA CITY, Iowa (WSAU) - A terrible start doomed the Wisconsin Badgers in their first Big Ten Conference loss of the season, 70-66, at Iowa.
The Hawkeyes came out hot while the Badgers were hitting just one field goal in the first 10 minutes. With five minutes to go before half, Iowa had a 20-point lead. Badger sharpshooters started finding the range and they closed to within three points, 66-63, with 22 seconds to go. Free throws and a late Badger turnover helped Iowa hold on.
The loss drops Wisconsin’s record to 13-5 and the Badger’s 4-1 conference mark drops them out of first, now standing a half-game behind Michigan State. George Marshall led Wisconsin scoring with 20 points. Sam Dekker had 13, but Jared Berggren was held to eight.
