ANIWA, Wis (WSAU) There was a house fire Monday afternoon in Aniwa. A passing driver near Bear Lake noticed smoke coming from the home and called 9-1-1.

Firefighters arrived around noontime and found flames coming from the back of the home. The Easton, Hewett, Birnamwood, and Langlade County rural fire departments responded.

The home suffered heavy damage. Firefighters were able to keep the flames from spreading to an attached garage. There were no injuries. The home was empty at the time.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
