WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) - Today is the open house for Wausau’s new Warming Center for the homeless. The downtown facility will be capable of hosting up to 15 guests each night during the cold weather months.
Director Diane Borchardt says the public is welcome to come over today and tour the site... and you might even wish to volunteer to occasionally help while you’re there.
The Warming Center is keeping the February First opening date, since there is some unfinished training and staff preparation to complete before they can open.
Borchardt says it’s amazing how generous the community has been to get the warming center project off the ground.
The Community Warming Center was a project involving many organizations and individuals, with the United Way and Catholic Charities taking lead roles in getting it off the ground.
