WAUSAU, Wis (WSAU) An alternative high school program that’s operated in downtown Wausau since 1972 will shut down later this year. There isn’t enough money to keep the Storefront Learning Center open.
The school has a staff of three. They pay two full-time teachers. A third tutor is funded through the AmeriCorps program. There are 23 students enrolled.
School organizers say they hope to stay open through the end of the school year so 11 students can get their diplomas. The school will help the remaining students transition to other high school programs.
The learning center might stay open if additional funding can be found.
