WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- A Wausau resident and police did not enjoy someone’s idea of a fireworks show Saturday. Police Captain Bryan Hilts says they were called after someone set off a firecracker in a house. “An unknown person opened the front door of a residence in the 38-hundred block of Troy Street and threw a lit firecracker inside. The firecracker landed on carpeting and exploded.”
Hilts says the residents were home at the time, but were fortunate to be in another room when the firecracker exploded, causing some damage but no injuries.
It is illegal to set off exploding fireworks like firecrackers. Hilts says it is very fortunate nobody got hurt and that the explosion didn’t catch more of the carpeting or the entire house on fire.
Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact Wausau Police at (715) 261-7800.
