SD man sets new Wis. fishing record

SHEBOYGAN, WI (WTAQ) - A South Dakota man has set a Wisconsin state fishing record for the largest whitefish ever caught. 

The Department of Natural Resources have certified the catch by Roy Stromsness of Sioux Falls, South Dakota – 12-pound, four-ounce lake whitefish.

The previous state record was set in 1977, it weighed 11-pound, 11-ounce.

The fish was caught on Lake Michigan near Sheboygan on July 9th while Stromsness with on a fishing charter.

According to the DNR, the fish was caught south of the Sheboygan harbor in 100 feet of water, 30 feet down on a lead cor board setup, baited with a Stinger Spoon.
