MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) Two new pilot programs are being planned at Marshfield Senior High School to study and prevent teen suicide and abusive relationships.

According to school board member Frances Bohon, the suicide prevention program at the school is being planned in conjunction with research being done as part of a Marshfield Clinic residency program. Bohon says, “It’s a partnership with Behavioral Health at the clinic. So it’s a public/private partnership to enhance the mental health of the student body at the high school.”

Another similar program is being planned with Marshfield’s Personal Development Center to help study and prevent abusive relationships among teenagers Bohon added that, “They just felt that it’s important to make kids more aware of the warning signs, and the strategies for dealing with situations that they may find themselves in and might need to find a way out of.”

Parental consent will be required for students participating in those programs, and Bohon added that there’ll be no cost to the school district for either program.
