Brewers Prepare For Second Half

MILWAUKEE, WI (LEARFIELD-WSAU) Milwaukee Brewers’ owner Mark Attanasio says his team has too much talent to have lost 56 games this season. He says some of the players need to step up as they come out of the All-Star break.

Brewers’ ace Yovani Gallardo agrees. He says it won’t be easy, considering the team’s rash of injuries and the July trade rumors which involve some players – including Gallardo himself.

Catcher Jonathan Lucroy says he and his teammates cannot fell sorry for themselves, and they need to press on without their wounded leaders like Corey Hart and Aramis Ramirez. Lucroy has done his part. He leads the Crew in R-B-I’s with 52, and he’s batting in the cleanup spot while Ramirez is out with his lingering sore left knee. Lucroy says it’s not impossible for the Brewers to have a good second half.

But even if they rally late in the season – like they did a year ago – it would be a pipe dream for Milwaukee to reach .500. They’re 18 games below the break-even point. And with 68 games left, Milwaukee would have to go 43-and-25 the rest of the way to get back to .500. They’ll try to start making up ground tomorrow night, when they open a weekend home series against Miami.
