American Idol has been slapped with a lawsuit from 10 former contestants who say they were eliminated after being subjected to racial discrimination.

According to TMZ , the contestants, all of whom are black, say the Fox singing competition referenced their arrest histories and portrayed them as "violent criminals, liars and sexual deviants." None of them were convicted of charges after their arrests.

The complaint also argues that producers didn't investigate the backgrounds of white contestants in the same manner.

Each contestant seeks 25 million dollars, at least. The lawsuit is also calling on American Idol to, in the words of TMZ, "adopt new anti-racism regulations."

The contestants involved in the lawsuit are Corey Clark , Jaered Andrews and Jacob John Smalley from the second season of American Idol ; Donnie Williams from season three; Terrell Brittenum and Derrell Brittenum from season five; Thomas Daniels and Akron Watson from season six; Ju'Not Joyner from season eight; and Chris Golightly from season nine.
