One amazing thing about Maroon 5 is that after more than a decade on the charts, the group has still never revealed the origin of their name, and what it means. It's such a secret that not even all the band members know what it means, and the only other person who knows is... Billy Joel .
Appearing on CBS Sunday Morning with Charles Osgood along with Adam Levine this past weekend, Maroon 5 drummer Matt Flynn , who's been in the band for nearly nine years, said , " I don't even know. I don't really care, but I don't know."
So how did Billy Joel, of all people, find out the meaning of Maroon 5? Because he asked. Maroon 5 guitarist James Valentine tells ABC News Radio, "That happened in New York City. We were at dinner, and he just came down, sat down at the table and he said, 'OK, guys. So what does the name mean?'"
James adds, "You're not gonna say 'no' to Billy Joel, so we told him!"
On CBS Sunday Morning , Adam would only say that the origin of Maroon 5 is "depressing," adding, "Yeah, it's so bad that we had to shroud it in the mystique of just never telling anybody."
