MILWAUKEE, WI (LEARFIELD-WSAU) Brewers' slugger Ryan Braun says it might be awhile before he comes off the disabled list with the right-hand injury that's been bugging him for weeks. Braun visited a hand specialist yesterday. He refused to specify the extent of the injury, but he said it was nothing he didn’t expect – and surgery would not be required.
Braun's been out since June 9th, when he left in the third inning of a game after he winced while striking out. Braun said a week later that the injury involves the right thumb and ligaments leading to his index finger. Brewers' manager Ron Roenicke said it never gets a chance to heal when he's swinging the bat – like he admitted doing during his time on the D-L until yesterday.
Braun said he would stop swinging the bat now. Roenicke said it's not a “quick fix.” He's not sure if Braun will be ready to return when his time on the D-L is over.
