LAC DU FLAMBEAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- Lac du Flambeau police have teamed up with several law enforcement agencies to arrest twenty people on drug charges.
The early morning raids involved forty officers from eleven agencies in seven counties plus tribal police. It’s called Operation Pandora, and Tribal Chairman Tom Maulson says it’s part of an effort to make it harder to get drugs on the reservation.
Maulson said the tribe had earlier declared a state of emergency two months ago, and they’re determined to take on those using and distributing drugs. The Chairman says they also have resources to help the people addicted to the drugs.
Operation Pandora is not over. Officials say this is just the first wave of activity as they try to stop drug use and the trafficking of synthetic marijuana and prescription narcotics.
