Packers Well Below the Salary Cap

GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) The Green Bay Packers are estimated to be around 21-million dollars below the N-F-L’s new salary cap. The Green Bay Press-Gazette said the cap was set yesterday at close to 124-million-dollars per team – and the Packers carried over an extra seven-million in cap space from last season.

The newspaper says Green Bay’s payroll for salary cap purposes is around 110-million dollars, including the 10-million that was saved when the team released veteran Charles Woodson a week ago.

The Packers will have to spend some of their cap money to give tender offers to restricted free agents – including center Evan Dietrich-Smith and corner Sam Shields. Also, the Pack will need some cash to sign the draft choices they bring in.

At the same time, general manager Ted Thompson is looking for as much cap space as possible to sign new deals with quarterback Aaron Rodgers, linebacker Clay Matthews, and nose tackle B-J Raji.
