Lassa: Democrats had a better jobs bill

by

MADISON, WI (WSAU) -  Democrats are saying a job training bill passed recently doesn’t go far enough to help workers and businesses.

Senator Julie Lassa from Stevens Point said in the Democratic party’s weekly address that their party’s Jobs Now Plan was similar, but would have been a better at helping unemployed workers and employers trying to fill skilled positions.  She says, "Small businesses across the state are stuggling to find access to capital that would allow them to grow and create more jobs.  The Small Business Credit Now Bill would allow businesses to work with the state to turn tax credits into a grant, giving them immediate access to the capital they need."

Lassa says the state should be doing everything it can to offer grants to help schools and businesses train for jobs available right now.

She says the Senate and Assembly Democrats came together at start of session to introduce a package of bills for job creation, including incentives to purchase goods and services from Wisconsin based employers and encourage in-state supply chains for products.

One of those bills would also force a change in the state’s procurement process, allowing consideration for Skyward to participate in a statewide student information software service. Skyward is presently appealing a state selection of a Minnesota competitor.
