WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis (WSAU)  Yesterday was the first day back on-the-job for Wood County's police dog.

Toro was missing for a day-and-a-half earlier this month when he ran into the woods. The dog was called out to assist with a state patrol traffic stop in Portage County when he became distracted along Highway 54. That was a Sunday; he was found about a mile away on Tuesday morning.

Since then Toro has been checked out by a vet and has become reacquainted with his handler.

The Wood County sheriffs department is considering a tracking device in the dog's collar to keep this from happening again. Police dogs and the training that comes with them make the animals worth between $10,000 and $15,000.
