Williams Gets Buzz For Other Jobs

MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) As sure as the calendar hits April, Marquette men’s basketball coach Buzz Williams will be mentioned as a possible candidate for high-profile coaching vacancies. In fact, it’s already happening, just a week into the N-C-A-A Tournament.

U-C-L-A made its firing of Ben Howland official yesterday, after it had been rumored for a while. A C-B-S Sports blog speculated that Williams would be a top candidate for what’s considered one of the most tradition-laden college basketball programs in the country.

But W-T-M-J sports in Milwaukee says there are two big reasons Williams would stay at Marquette – an reported salary of two-million-dollars a year, and Marquette’s Jesuit tradition that allows Williams to talk about his faith, even though he’s not a Catholic.

The Golden Eagles’ success could also keep Williams around. His teams have made the N-C-A-A Tournament in all five of his seasons as the Eagles’ head man. And Marquette is one of just a handful of schools making the Sweet-16 for three straight years.

The Eagles play Miami on Thursday night in the East Regional opener in the nation’s capital.
