While American Idol ratings haven't been very impressive lately, the same cannot be said for the reigning champion's record sales. Phillip Phillips' "Home" has just become the best-selling single ever by an alumnus of the show.
Yahoo! Chart Watch reports that "Home" has sold 4,262,000 copies, passing the previous record-holder, Kelly Clarkson's "Stronger." Kelly's song only had that title for eight months: last July, it passed the previous record-holder, Carrie Underwood's 'Before He Cheats."
"Home" peaked at #6 on the chart. Phillip's debut album, The World from the Side of the Moon, has spent seven weeks in the top 10 and is the most successful debut from an American Idol c hamp in several years. The last debut album by an Idol winner to stay in the top 10 that long was Carrie's Some Hearts, which logged 30 weeks between 2005 and 2007.
After opening for Matchbox Twenty, Phillip is now on a solo headlining college tour. This summer, he'll next hit the road with John Mayer . Tickets for that trek go on sale Friday.
