Assembly committee discusses minimum sentences for drunk drivers

by

MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - Members of the Assembly Judiciary Committee have been hosting a public hearing on a bill which would establish mandatory minimum sentences for drunken drivers.

The measure being discussed today would impose a minimum three-year prison sentence on drivers convicted of an OWI for the seventh, eighth and ninth time.

A 10th offense would call for a minimum four year sentence in Wisconsin.

Any driver causing an injury while driving with a blood alcohol content of point-0-4 to point-0-8 would be jailed for at least 30 days.

No vote was to be taken Thursday.
