Will.i.am has been hanging around with Britney Spears so much lately, it's not surprising that he'll have a starring role on her upcoming album...albeit behind the scenes.
Will tells Rolling Stone that he's serving as the executive producer for Britney's new album, which she's been working on for a few months. The head Black Eyed Pea tells Rolling Stone that it all started when they collaborated on "Big Fat Bass," a track on Britney's Femme Fatale album.
"After I did [that song], and then we did 'Scream & Shout,' she really liked the way we worked because of my approach," he says. "So they asked me to be involved in, not producing and writing every song, but to be an executive producer on the songs." He added that he hopes that the new disc will reveal the "real" Britney Spears.
He explains to Rolling Stone that he told Britney's team that before he could go into the studio with her, he needed to "have lunch with her four times a month for three months...because we need to talk. We need to talk about what she's excited about in life. I gotta talk about the things that hurt her. I gotta talk about the things that make her concerned...I gotta talk to her about all the things that her fans want to talk to her about."
Explaining that he needs to be "the vehicle between her and her fans," Will added, "We can't do another song about going on the dance floor. Really? Didn't we see a bunch of Britney doing that already? Don't we want to see something that comes from her heart?" So far there's no word on when the album will be out.
As for his own music, Will says he plans to release another single from his #willpower album and go on tour, but not in the U.S. "I'll tour everywhere else, but not the States. It's a weird place to tour," he said, adding mysteriously, "It's gonna be cool. [But] I don't want to reveal how I tour." Somehow, we think holograms will be involved.
