LA CROSSE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point baseball team completed a four-game weekend sweep of UW-La Crosse by winning both ends of a doubleheader Sunday, 6-1 and 7-5. Game 1 Sean Gerber (Stoughton, WI/Stoughton) hit a pair of home runs and starting pitcher JP Feyereisen (River Falls, WI/River Falls) allowed just one run through seven innings for UWSP (30-8, 17-5 WIAC) in the 6-1 win. Gerber put UWSP on the board in the first inning with a two-out solo home run. The Pointers added another run in the inning when Jimmy Coady (La Crosse, WI/Aquinas) singled, stole second, and scored on a single by Casey Barnes (Mequon, WI/Homestead). The Eagles (16-19, 8-13 WIAC) posted one run in the bottom of the first, but Gerber pushed the Pointers' lead to 4-1 with a two-run home run in the third inning. UWSP added a run in the seventh inning on an RBI single from Dan Douglas (East Troy, WI/East Troy), and one more run in the ninth inning when Douglas doubled to score Riley Spetz (Sevastopol, WI/Sevastopol). Both Gerber and Douglas tallied three hits in the win. Game 2 The Pointers fended off a late surge by the Eagles and Ryan Schilter (West Bend, WI/West) collected three hits as UWSP held on for the 7-5 win. The Pointers and Eagles each scored a run in the first inning, but Clint Rose (Watertown, WI/Watertown) hit an RBI double in the second inning and Coady and Bobby Gregorich (Plover, WI/SPASH) each collected an RBI in the third inning to give the Pointers a 4-1 lead. La Crosse chipped away with runs in the fourth and fifth innings to cut the UWSP lead to 4-3. The Pointers picked up three runs in the eighth inning when Riley Spetz (Sevastopol, WI/Sevastopol) hit an RBI single, Douglas drove in a run on an infield single, and Schilter drove in Spetz with an RBI single. The Eagles picked up a pair of runs in the eighth inning, but Luke Watson (Appleton, WI/Xavier) came out of the bullpen to pitch 1.2 scoreless innings and collect his fourth save of the year.
