MARATHON COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) - The Number-two man in the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department was promoted today to the top spot.
Governor Scott Walker appointed Chief Deputy Scott Parks to replace Randy Hoenisch, effective Thursday at noon when a swearing-in ceremony will take place at the Wausau courthouse.
Parks was among 21 applicants.
Hoenisch announced in February he would step down to be with his family, as his wife is about to be sentenced for stealing painkillers from offenders she supervised as a former state probation agent.
Media reports said Hoenisch was only in his office for a total of less than two hours during the first month-and-a-half of 2013.
Walker said Parks’ experience should make for an easy transition.
Parks became a Marathon County deputy in 1979, and he became the chief deputy six years ago. He’ll serve the rest of Hoenisch’s term until January of 2015.
