Scott Parks sworn in as Sheriff Thursday

by

WAUSAU, WI (WSAU)  -  The new Marathon County Sheriff has taken office. Scott Parks took his oath of office earlier today from Judge Greg Grau.

Parks told a packed courtroom that becoming sheriff is an opportunity to give back to the department and the community.  "I started with the Sheriff's office on December 24th, 1979, and have worked here for 33 years filling various roles and ranks.  This appointment process has allowed me the opportunity to return to return to this community the debt I owe them for allowing me the entertaining and interesting career that I've had."

The new Sheriff praises law enforcement agencies throughout the county for working together, and he would like to see even more interagency cooperation.  "We are fortunate in Marathon County that area law enforcement works together so well.  Whether you wear brown, blue, or green, we are a cohesive unit all seeking the same vision, which is to provide greater services to out citizens while striving to reduce costs.  I intend to expand that momentum as we move forward."

Parks has said there are several things he would like to accomplish in the department and the best way to do that is to become sheriff. He’s grateful for the opportunity to move the department forward.  "I would like to thank Governor Walker for appointing me as the Sheriff of Marathon County.  Now it is up to me to demonstrate why I should be the  next elected Sheriff in the fall of 2014."

The appointed sheriff has just over a year to prove to Marathon County residents that he deserves to keep the job. Parks will have to run for election in the fall of 2014.
