Four of the 16 remaining artists on NBC's The Voice were sent home Wednesday night, on the first results show of the season.

The top-two vote-getters on each team automatically advanced. In the case of Team Blake Shelton , those artists were Holly Tucker and Danielle Bradbery . It was up to Blake to save one of his other two artists. He chose The Swon Brothers over Justin Rivers , citing the need for diversity on his team.

Sasha Allen and Kris Thomas of Team Shakira will return next week, thanks to the viewers' votes. Shakira, admitting that she couldn't sleep the night before due to the stress that comes with the results show, kept Garrett Gardner over Karina Iglesias . She explained that she could help Garrett grow as an artist more than Karina.

Michelle Chamuel and Vedo received the most votes among Team Usher artists. Josiah Hawley was saved by his coach over Cathia .

Adam Levine protégés Judith Hill and Amber Carrington will continue in the live playoffs. As the broadcast signed off, Adam blurted out that he would save Sarah Simmons over Caroline Glaser .

At the start of the broadcast, host Carson Daly announced that text and online votes were not counted due to "inconsistencies." However, the company that oversees the voting assured Daly and the viewers that the results were not affected by this decision.

During the show, Team Blake and Team Shakira teamed up for a performance of The Script 's "Hall of Fame." Team Adam and Team Usher joined forces on Swedish House Mafia 's "Don't You Worry Child."

In addition, Cee Lo Green , who's on hiatus from the show after serving as coach during its first three seasons, returned with season-two finalist Juliet Simms to perform his new single, "Only You."

Rod Stewart sang "Finest Woman," a track off his new album Time , alongside Garrett Gardner, Karina Iglesias and Josiah Hawley.

The live playoffs roll on next Monday night on NBC.
