UNDATED (WSAU) - If you’re wondering why flags are at half-staff, it’s because Wednesday is Peace Officers Memorial Day.
This day to remember police officers who gave their lives in the line of duty falls in the middle of Police Week. Several communities have recognition ceremonies this week to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
President Barack Obama and Governor Scott Walker have ordered flags of the State of Wisconsin flown at half-staff at all buildings, grounds, and military installations from sunrise to sunset. Governor Walker has also authorized any jurisdiction of this State to fly flags at half-staff on any day during Police Week.
