RINGLE, WI (WSAU) - One person was killed and another person hospitalized after a single vehicle accident in Ringle Sunday evening.
Marathon County Lieutenant Dale Wisnewski says the car northbound on Highway Q near Ringle. “It was a single-vehicle crash involving a red Corvette. Information from the initial investigation shows the Corvette was moving at a high rate of speed on Highway Q, lost control, went to the side of the road, hit a culvert, and rolled and flipped, ejecting the driver. The vehicle actually came to a rest on Poplar Lane.” He says the vehicle landed on it’s top.
52-year-old Peter Fisher from Ringle was the driver. He was ejected and killed in the crash. His 28-year-old passenger, Antonia Zak from Wausau, is at Aspirus Wausau Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit. Hospital officials declined to be specific about her condition except to say she's "stable" meaning only that she is alive and her condition is not changing.
Wisnewski says the Marathon County Accident Reconstruction Team is still evaluating what happened, but there is one big reason she is alive and he is not. “She had some serious injures, however luckily for her, she was wearing her seatbelt and he was not. That’s the difference.”
The 2001 red Corvette was a total loss. The crash happened Sunday night at 7:45 p.m.
The names of the occupants will be released late Monday afternoon.
