Bucks Narrow The Field

MILWAUKEE, WI (LEARFIELD-WSAU) The Milwaukee Bucks are reportedly down to two finalists for their head coaching vacancy. That’s after Steve Clifford agreed yesterday to become the new coach at Charlotte.

Houston assistant Kelvin Sampson and Atlanta coach Larry Drew are the two remaining finalists to replace Jim Boylan in Milwaukee. The Journal Sentinel said the two would get second interviews with Bucks’ officials this week.

Clifford had a second interview planned today in Milwaukee – but reports surfaced yesterday that Clifford accepted a two-year contract to coach the Bobcats, with a team option for a third year. Clifford, who’s now the lead assistant with the Los Angeles Lakers, will reportedly get six-million dollars over the entire contract. He replaces Mike Dunlap, who was fired in April after Charlotte went 21-and-61. Clifford will be the Bobcats’ third coach in three seasons.

This is his first N-B-A head coaching job, after serving as an assistant with New York, Houston, and Orlando as well as with the Lakers.
