WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) - A Rhinelander pet clinic is hoping to help control the pet population in the Wausau area by offering discounted neutering services.
Thanks to a $10,000 grant from the ASPCA, the clinic will be offering $5 neuters for male cats. The clinic is called The Fix Is In, and they perform neutering and spay services from mobile clinics. Director Karla Ortman says cats are an overlooked population when it comes to treatment and neutering. "Obviously, the male cats are contributing to the over-population." Most owners of female cats already get them spayed to prevent unwanted kittens, but many owners of male cats don't do the same.
Ortman says there's other benefits to neutering for owners. "Tomcats that aren't fixed are going to spray to mark their territory." That can lead to messes and smells you might not want in and around your home. Ortman also says that neutered cats are usually less aggressive and are more friendly and docile with people and other cats.
The discounted neutering is offered to residents in the 54401 and 54403 zip codes and will be performed at the Marathon County Humane Society. You can set up appointments with The Fix is In by calling them at 715-550-7729 or by visiting their website at http://www.thefixisin.org.
