Marshfield tax hike likely

MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) - It looks like Marshfield residents may see their city taxes go up in 2014. For the first time in eight years, Marshfield’s Common Council has agreed to set a probable tax increase as one of the “parameters” they’ll use to develop their city budget for next year.

City administrator Steve Barg says, unfortunately, the cost of running the city just keeps going up, and that, “There are costs that we need to keep up on whether it be fuel or supplies, and we’re always trying to keep up on our road maintenance.” Barg says the current tax rate of $8.95 would probably increase only about two or three cents per thousand of assessed property value. The exact amount of that tax increase will depend on how much impact anticipated new development makes on the city’s tax base.
